SACRAMENTO – Friday, September 23, 2016 – Today Assemblymember Jones Sawyer (D-Los Angeles) is proud to announce that Governor Brown signed his bill, AB 1900, which allows for the disposition of the existing San Pedro Courthouse by the Judicial Council.
“The San Pedro Courthouse has been closed since 2013 due to budget shortfalls, and the Governor’s signature officially allows for the sale of the property, which operated for almost 45 years and has been sitting vacant for over 3,” stated Assemblymember Reginald Jones-Sawyer, Sr. “As the former Director of Asset Management for the City of Los Angeles, I understand too well the loss of revenue to the state when properties are left vacant too long.”
AB 1900 will let the Judicial Council sell the property first to Los Angeles County before considering another buyer because it has 5 percent ownership, and the money will go into a state court construction fund, which has been underfunded since 2008.”
