Jones-Sawyer: Youth Reinvestment Grants Disrupt the School-to-Prison Pipeline

(Marin County) - Assemblymember Reginald Jones-Sawyer (D-South Los Angeles) is convinced that the alternative to mass incarceration can be found in trauma-informed care for at-risk youth. To implement that idea the Assemblymember secured funding in the State Budget for Youth Reinvestment Grants. Those grants are being used to create diversion programs to disrupt the school-to-prison pipeline. Assemblymember Jones-Sawyer traveled to San Quentin to speak with inmates who might have benefited from this revolutionary concept in youth justice and connected with a young man who is prime example of what can happen with early intervention.  Check the story in this new video.
