Assemblymember Reginald Jones-Sawyer’s Inspiration for Youth Reinvestment Fund

(Los Angeles) - With the approval of the latest State Budget, Assemblymember Reggie Jones-Sawyer (D- South Los Angeles) realized his goal of establishing a Youth Reinvestment Fund. The $37.3M fund will help California children avoid the school-to-prison pipeline, and was inspired by a real-life experience Assembly Jones-Sawyer learned from one of the thousands of young men who have been caught in this debilitating system. “This $37M is to start of us actually going out and dealing with the symptoms and the causes, not dealing with the results of what goes on when they get to prison, when they’re (in) mental facilities, when they’re on drugs. Let’s stop it at the front.” says Assemblymember Jones-Sawyer. Watch this Assembly Access video to learn more about the Youth Reinvestment Fund.
