Is the Education System Addressing the Needs of Boys & Men of Color in California?

Assemblymember Reggie Jones-Sawyer hosted an informational briefing of the Assembly Select Committee on the Status of Boys and Men of Color, where over 100 community advocates and youth were present. He expressed his concerns about the failure of our education system to address the basic needs of our boys and young men of color. Jones-Sawyer described the schools in his district as “doors of no return,” seeming to provide no sustainable future for boys and young men of color. Instead, he stressed the need for policymakers to take drastic measures to improve the academic outcomes for these young men. Watch the Assemblymember's remarks in this Assembly Access video.
