Governor Signs Jones-Sawyer Legislation to Help the City of Los Angeles Address the Homelessness Crisis

For immediate release:

(Sacramento) – “I would like to extend my sincerest gratitude to Governor Gavin Newsom for his signature on Assembly Bill 1734 to help the City of Los Angeles urgently address the homelessness crisis.

AB 1734 cuts through government red tape by creating an exemption from the Surplus Land Act to allow the City of Los Angeles to utilize existing publicly-owned property to develop much-needed housing. By signing AB 1734, the City could dispose of surplus land in half the time it currently takes and build affordable emergency housing faster.

I am grateful for Mayor Karen Bass’s powerful leadership in addressing the homelessness crisis in Los Angeles. I look forward to continuing to work with Mayor Bass to combat the most pressing issue our city is facing.”
