Statement on the Death of Tyre Nichols

The death of Tyre Nichols at the hands of law enforcement was a preventable tragedy.

This is yet another example of the warrior mentality found across agencies throughout our country. It also shows a greater need for de-escalation training, and a more educated and life experienced peace officer to better assess situations and seek options other than brutality.

The officers that bailed out 24 hours after being charged shows that our bail system must be reformed.

Had Mr. Nichols been arrested and charged with a crime, it is doubtful he would have been given the option of bail.
