Statement on the Passage of the State’s Budget

For immediate release:

I voted to pass the nearly $270 billion dollar California state budget. This budget provides essential funding to help our state rebound from the pandemic and maintain a rainy-day fund for future needs.

This is a budget that works to support programs and services crucial to my constituents in the 59th Assembly District, which include south Los Angeles, Huntington Park and Walnut Park. Funding for education, the elderly, immigrant and undocumented communities, and small businesses as well as healthcare services are increased from last year and will have immediate and lasting positive impacts.

This includes a one-time $30 million request I made to revamp and expand the Kedren Community Health Center in south Los Angeles that serves the predominantly Latino community, the county’s foster care youth, and the local area homeless population.

I want to thank Gov. Newsom for working with the legislature in producing a pragmatic, yet responsive, budget that addresses matters facing our most needy and middle-class families struggling due to the employment and health concerns caused by COVID-19.
