(Sacramento – April 9, 2019)  - Chair of Assembly Public Safety Committee, Assemblymember Reginald Jones-Sawyer, Sr. (D-South Los Angeles) issued the following statement on Assembly Bill 392 passing out of committee:

“I set out today with two goals and I believe we accomplished both.  I wanted to foster a respectful conversation where all sides were heard and I wanted to keep this important bill moving forward.  After over three hours of discussion, I am pleased that we were able to advance the bill out of the committee for continued consideration in a respectful and professional manner.

“As this bill continues through the legislative process, I am committed to working with the author to ensure the bill carefully balances increased accountability while ensuring that law enforcement has the resources they need to be trained in deescalating dangerous situations.  Many law enforcement groups are similarly committed to working toward an effective solution.  I look forward to future conversations with the author and all stakeholders to move AB 392 through the Legislature and end police violence.”
