Erma Jean Hall-Wood has been politically active since realizing the power of fighting for justice on behalf of the ninety-nine percent. Her activism has taken her all across America including to Nevada, Ohio, New Mexico, Wisconsin, Texas and Alabama just to name a few. One of her best highlights was participating in the campaign to flip New Mexico from red to blue in 2008 while working to elect President Obama.
Erma is also a retiree from Los Angeles County after forty-years of dedicated service in the Health and Services Department and is affectionately known as “Granny” throughout the Service Employees International Union 721 (SEIU). During her tenure with the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services, she participated in numerous union negotiations.
Although retired, Erma is still very active with the Union and continues to work tirelessly to ensure that the citizens of Los Angeles are protected in their jobs and to secure benefits that are entitled to them. For more than twenty-five years, she has continuously demonstrated her concern and compassion for the people of Los Angeles by feeding the hungry with members of her church at St. Andrews Baptist Church. In addition, she serves as a Delegate on the Democratic State Central Committee and is a member of Congresswoman Karen Bass’ People’s Advisory Committee.
Erma Jean Hall-Wood was born in Texas and has received numerous awards but says her proudest accomplishments are her two sons and her dearest titles are: Mother and Fighter.
