Assemblymember Jones-Sawyer Releases Statement Following Announcement in Stephon Clark Case

For immediate release:

(Sacramento – March 4, 2019,)  - Assemblymember Reginald Byron Jones-Sawyer, Chair of the Assembly Public Safety Committee issued the following statement:

“This Saturday we learned that charges will not be brought against the officers who shot and killed Stephon Clark almost one year ago.  As Chair of the Assembly Public Safety Committee, I want to urge those in Sacramento and around the nation to remain peaceful and steadfast in our commitment to fighting to end these tragic killings.  There are two competing legislative bills, one in the Senate and one in the Assembly that directly impact this issue.  By coming together with the community, activists, academics, law makers and especially law enforcement, we can find legislative and administrative solutions to these types of police shootings.”
