Assemblymember Jones-Sawyer Applauds Governor Brown’s Appointment of CHP Commissioner Warren Stanley

(Sacramento – February 9, 2018) - Assemblymember Reginald Jones-Sawyer, Sr. issued the following statement today after Governor Jerry Brown announced the first African American Commissioner of the California Highway Patrol:

“As the former Chair of the California Legislative Black Caucus, I am happy to hear the Governor has listened to the rank and file of law enforcement and the California Legislature to appoint someone who has demonstrated competence and leadership throughout his distinguished career with the CHP.”

“In 2017, as acting CHP Commissioner, Mr. Stanley showed true leadership as we experienced some of the worst wildfires and mudslides in California’s history. Mr. Stanley was responsible for the day to day operations of over 11,000 employees while managing the crisis of the wildfires and mudslides. Mr. Stanley has demonstrated he is well suited for any future crisis California may encounter, and I look forward to his continued leadership.”
