(SACRAMENTO) – Reginald Byron Jones-Sawyer (D-South Los Angeles) today was sworn in as the Assemblymember for the newly 59th Assembly District that includes the communities of South Los Angeles, Florence-Firestone, and Huntington Park and Walnut Park. The ceremony was held on the floor of the State Assembly in the State Capitol at noon.
“I am honored to serve as the Assemblymember from the 59th Assembly District,” said Jones-Sawyer. “I will use the trust placed in me every day to work on behalf of my constituents.”
“There is much work to do, especially in the area of job creation. So many people in the district and the state are suffering and without a job – this is inexcusable in the wealthiest nation on the planet. My first order of business will be to work with my colleagues to forge solutions that create and protect jobs and see that the economic recovery is a strong one.”
In addition to job growth, Jones-Sawyer pledged to also address issues of economic inequality among those that live and work in the district. “Yes, we need jobs, but we need to make sure that they are sustainable jobs with good wages that bring economic growth to the district,” Jones-Sawyer stated.
Jones-Sawyer was accompanied by his three children, other family and friends for the swearing-in. The oath of office was administered by the Honorable, Mary Lou Villar de Longoria, Judge, Los Angeles Superior Court.
