Focused on Public Safety

As the Chair of the Assembly’s Public Safety Committee, I have been working with Governor Newsom and my colleagues in the legislature to ensure proactive measures are being taken to protect the health and well-being of the residents of the 59th Assembly District (AD) and that of all Californians.

Working to re-open the St. Vincent Medical Center and provide the community immediate access to over 180 medical beds to help assess, treat and quarantine patients afflicted with the COVID-19 virus was a necessary step in providing more resources to residents. Our work resulted in the immediate funding and logistical coordination to bring St. Vincent’s back online after its closure in January within weeks.

Additionally, my office is working closely with vendors and nonprofits to promote services, including food delivery and distribution to those in need within the 59th AD. I want to support those businesses that remain open and provide recognition to the outstanding volunteers and staff of our nonprofits working to help others.

Procuring resources for our clinics and area hospitals remains a major focus of mine. I have been in contact with the Los Angeles County Medical Association and I am leading the charge to secure medical equipment including surgical masks (N95), protective gloves and goggles for our frontline medical personnel.

You can find a complete resource guide my office has compiled to help with personal matters including learning about renters rights, tax filing deadline changes, water and electricity service payment programs and the most up-to-date state guidelines to help protect you and your family. Residents can also follow my social media feeds for the latest updates on steps the County of Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Unified School District and the State is taking to protect residents and where to go for employment, healthcare/insurance programs and services.

Please be safe, remain calm and informed. We are in this together and I am here to assist.

Sincerely,

Reggie Jones-Sawyer
