The work accomplished in the fight for civil rights justice and equality by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., lifts us all. We owe a debt of gratitude to Dr. King for his endeavors and the sacrifices he made in leading the movement that so many have benefitted from over the decades.

Dr. King showed how political engagement and coalition building help establish positive movements. He gave us the road map on how civil disobedience can highlight injustice in the law. These tools remain the most effective ways to raise your voice when confronting racism and discrimination.

Assemblymember Jones-Sawyer’s Youth Leadership Program To Receive Insights on Financial Literacy

Participants Will Learn How to Navigate and Utilize Financial and Banking Tools

LOS ANGELES, California – The inaugural cohort of Assemblyman Reginald Byron Jones-Sawyer, Sr.’s Youth Leadership Program will kick-off 2020 on Saturday, January 18 with a discussion and presentation on financial literacy. The program, which includes high school participants living within the 59th Assembly District, will gather at the Assemblymember’s district office located at 700 Exposition Park Drive in Los Angeles.

“The program will introduce these students to a variety of issues and topics helping to raise their perspectives and understanding on how banking, public policy, career access and advancement work,” said Assemblymember Jones-Sawyer.

As of January 1, 2020, California’s Education and Penal Codes will no longer use the term “at-risk” to recognize, label or identify any student or student population attending our state’s public schools.

AB 413, eliminates the negative terminology and stigma associated with categorizing students as ‘at-risk’ and alters the language to a positive, reinforcing phrase that matches the child’s potential as an at-promise student.
