Assemblymember Jones-Sawyer Education Reform Bills Pass State Assembly

(SACRAMENTO, CA) – Last week, the Assembly approved two important education reform bills that passed on a bipartisan vote.

AB 549 strengthens school safety by encouraging school districts to clearly define the roles of specified school faculty on campus, including police officers and mental health professionals.

Jones-Sawyer Announces $100 million in additional funding for California’s judicial system

(SACRAMENTO)  Assemblymember Reginald Byron Jones-Sawyer, Sr. (D-Los Angeles), Chair of the California State Assembly’s Sub-Committee # 5 on Public Safety, announced the committee’s approval of  $100 million  in increased funding to establish fiscal accountability and transparency of the state’s judicial system.

“This funding will help restore the access of the public to the judicial system” said Jones-Sawyer. “The lack of funding for court interpreters, court reporters, clerks and court staff to assist in everything from filing court documents to providing information, has created devastating delays of time, familial disruptions and continued fiscal hardships.”

Reginald Byron Jones-Sawyer Takes Oath as Assemblymember in 59th Assembly District

(SACRAMENTO) – Reginald Byron Jones-Sawyer (D-South Los Angeles) today was sworn in as the Assemblymember for the newly 59th Assembly District that includes the communities of South Los Angeles, Florence-Firestone, and Huntington Park and Walnut Park. The ceremony was held on the floor of the State Assembly in the State Capitol at noon.

“I am honored to serve as the Assemblymember from the 59th Assembly District,” said Jones-Sawyer. “I will use the trust placed in me every day to work on behalf of my constituents.”

18th Annual Back-to-School Health and Family Festival

Assemblymember Jones-SawyerPlease join me, and activists from Mothers In Action, for the 18th Annual Back-to-School Health and Family Festival. This event is designed to serve students ages 5 to 15. Parents are encouraged to bring immunization records for FREE immunizations and mandatory LAUSD whooping cough shots. Vision and hearing screenings and haircuts are also available at no charge.
