The death of Tyre Nichols at the hands of law enforcement was a preventable tragedy.

This is yet another example of the warrior mentality found across agencies throughout our country. It also shows a greater need for de-escalation training, and a more educated and life experienced peace officer to better assess situations and seek options other than brutality.

Statement on Governor Newsom’s Proposed State Budget

The $297 Billion state budget proposed by Governor Newsom largely keeps our investments intact, which is a testament to the carefully crafted, responsible budgets of the past. The budget proposes continuing investments I championed, including rehabilitation and reentry services and increasing critical programs through an additional $1 billion for homelessness directed to cities and counties.

In an effort to keep American officials at bay during their colossal economic failures and stunning military loses to the brave Ukrainian forces, the Kremlin has decided to make Ms. Griner an example of their authority.

"A simple mea culpa is not enough, nor is resigning as the president of the city council.

The racist and homophobic attacks cannot be wiped away by resigning a post, Ms. Martinez and her colleagues, Mr. De Leon, and Mr. Cedillo must resign their seats on the Los Angeles City Council. Their actions are unbecoming of elected officials and they have lost the public's trust.

California Moves One Step Closer to Licensing Bounty Hunters

(Sacramento) Assemblymember Jones-Sawyer’s (D-South Los Angeles) Assembly Bill (AB) 2043, sponsored by Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara, has passed both Senate Insurance and Senate Public Safety Committees. This bill requires all bail fugitive recovery agents, colloquially known as bounty hunters, to become licensed by the state.
