Majority Leader Calderon Statement on LAUSD-UTLA Negotiations

Tuesday, January 15, 2019

SACRAMENTO – Majority Leader Ian Calderon issued the following statement today regarding contract negotiations between Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) and United Teachers Los Angeles (UTLA):

“What UTLA teachers are asking for is critical for the success of our students and our public education system. Smaller classroom sizes, hiring much-needed support staff, and paying teachers a fair wage are essential to improving public education. Teachers have the most important job, not just when it comes to the future of our children, but also for the future of our state. It’s important that we give them the tools they need to be successful. Their success is our shared success.  Negotiations should be focused on what’s best for our students and it is clear that they deserve more.  I am hopeful that both sides can come to fair agreement as soon as possible.”
