Healing not Incarceration: Capitol Rally to Urge the Passage of AB 1231

What: Rally & Press Conference for the Safer Communities through Opportunities Act (AB 1231): Faith leaders, immigrant leaders, and justice advocates will gather on the West Steps of the State Capitol to call on the Senate to advance AB 1231, landmark legislation that expands diversion opportunities and redefines what safety means in California.

When: Monday, August 25, 2025 – 10:00 AM PT

Where: California State Capitol – West Steps

Who: Multifaith leaders, immigrant families, grassroots organizers, labor partners, and members of the faith community. Confirmed speakers include:

  • Assemblymember Sade Elhawary
  • Clergy leaders from Los Angeles and across California
  • Representatives from SEIU, Vera Institute of Justice, PICO California, Drug Policy Alliance, LARRP, and ILRC
  • Grassroots leaders and directly impacted community members
