Statement by Assemblymember Reggie Jones-Sawyer on Proposed California Budget

For immediate release:

As Chair of the Assembly’s Public Safety Committee, I am pleased to see programs I am spearheading have additional funding from the Governor.  This includes much needed resources to support law enforcement via my bill AB 331, which helps to curb smash and grab crimes by instituting felony convictions in contrast to Prop. 47.

I applaud the inclusion of additional budget funds by Governor Newsom to allow the Attorney General to prosecute retail theft criminals statewide.

Record investments in education and healthcare all while saving an additional $9 billion for future rainy days should be applauded. California remains exemplary in its ability to grow its economy, balance a budget, provide programs and services for its residents all while contending with a global pandemic.
